South Africa suffers 6.8% local currency price rise on consumables from Hewlett-Packard

Issue #0601/4 - Exchange rate fluctuations bring higher prices to South African market through over-reactive pricing policies

Because the South African Rand weakened by some 7.5% between the beginning of September and late November, Hewlett-Packard printer users in the country have suffered a price rise on consumables in the January price list. The increase is a blanket 6.8% across all products in all categories.

This shouldn’t be a major problem to users though – the exchange rate began a rapid recovery as November drew to a close and now stands a point some 3% higher than at the beginning of September. So, there is a strong probability that the price increases will be reversed in either the February or March price lists.
