Editor’s note: TCPglobal wishes to apologise to Kyocera for an error that was introduced to the Total Cost of Printing charts in the article "Samsung joins corporate colour segment with new, faster colour laser printer - 32ppm CLP-770ND", which resulted in the FS-C5400 appearing to be a more expensive long-term option than it really is. The charts and text have been updated to reflect the correct situation. — END –

Issue #0922/1 – In an unusual move, underlining the extraordinary nature of the financial climate that the UK in particular finds itself in, Kyocera in the UK has increased supplies prices on just one product range, following the general increases applied a little over six months ago. Significant increases, averaging 11%, are imposed on products only launched at that time. This is highly unusual for Kyocera, whose pricing policy does not usually allow for price adjustments after launch.

Issue #0920/2 – A massive 47% price increase on the Ricoh SP C232SF, as units bought (by the supplier used as the price source in last week’s article) under a special purchase came to an end, demonstrates more clearly than ever before that the purchase price is almost entirely irrelevant to the long-term Total Cost of Printing of a printer, AiO or MFP.

Channel subsidising OEM profits as OEM prices are pushed up by as much as 68%

Issue #0919/1 – As we see UK printer users venting their anger against OEM supplies price increases by turning to third party supplies, see "Printer OEMs are killing off their own supplies business - losing out to third party supplies industry", we drill a little deeper and find that price increases (Manufacturer Recommended Sales Price - MRSP) from at least one major OEM have been pushed up considerably higher even than prices on the street – meaning that the channel is absorbing a portion of the manufacturer’s increase.
